Bug? Channels available in 1.2.6 are missing in 1.3 beta
I am able to use my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra in Audacity 1.2.6... see my other post:
http://www.audacityteam.org/forum/viewt ... 338#p30338
Unfortunately, in 1.3 Beta, when I select the Fast Track (MME: Fast Track Ultra In), the only options in the dropdown are Mono and Stereo.
When I open Help -> Audio Device Info, here's what I get:

Re: Bug? Channels available in 1.2.6 are missing in 1.3 beta
It looks like the new version is no longer correctly supporting your sound card.
It is probably worth reporting the problem by following the instructions here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... rting_Bugs
Be sure to give all the details that are asked for on that page, and mention which versions of Audacity it has successfully worked with. (you could also give them links to your posts on this forum, that way the rest of us may learn what the problem/solution is).

Re: Bug? Channels available in 1.2.6 are missing in 1.3 beta
Assuming you are using 1.3.6, this is a "known issue" mentioned in README.txt in the Audacity installation folder, and in the online version. We were trying to prevent the majority of users who only have two-channel recording devices setting recording to three or more channels and getting the inevitable error. This does however rely on the channel capabilities of multi-channel devices being correctly detected, and this is not happening for all devices.allancady wrote:I am able to use my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra in Audacity 1.2.6 ...Unfortunately, in 1.3 Beta, when I select the Fast Track (MME: Fast Track Ultra In), the only options in the dropdown are Mono and Stereo.
So no need to report anything, and I've noted the device concerned. If you want to use Audacity Beta, the previous Beta 1.3.5 should still be able to record eight channels with your device. Or if you can compile Audacity yourself, you can revert the code change that is causing the problem.

So it's not my imagination that 1.3.5 was the last known good stable unstable release.

That's why I'm sticking with 1.3.5 for now - seems plenty stable (and feature rich) for my modest needs ....kozikowski wrote: So it's not my imagination that 1.3.5 was the last known good stable unstable release.

Thanks Gale - I was looking in the wrong place for "know issues", but now I see there is a link to the release notes page that you mention.Gale Andrews wrote:Assuming you are using 1.3.6, this is a "known issue" mentioned in README.txt in the Audacity installation folder, and in the online version.
Personally, I've found 1.3.6 to be more stable on Windows XP than v.1.3.5kozikowski wrote:So it's not my imagination that 1.3.5 was the last known good stable unstable release.

Yes, the terminology is a bit confusing, but there are two sets of "known issues"stevethefiddle wrote:I was looking in the wrong place for "known issues", but now I see there is a link to the release notes page that you mention.Gale Andrews wrote:Assuming you are using 1.3.6, this is a "known issue" mentioned in README.txt in the Audacity installation folder, and in the online version.
(1) Those in the Release notes of a given version
(2) those that are discovered after a given release
Maybe it would be better to combine these somehow for the online version, but it would make for a very long and possibly confusing page! I think it's fair to say that quite a number of bugs in 1.3.6 are in 1.3.5 as well (even though only recently discovered) and of the new functionality in 1.3.6, only "linked label and audio tracks" is really problematical.
Will try to load known issues (since release) with some content soon - am behind with all of that.

UPDATE: Phew, just did a test recording from FM and got a a lot of crackly hiss overlaying the signal - thought that's blown it - tried it on 1.3.5 and still got the same. Only then did I check the FM tuner to notice that one of my cats had detuned it !

Re: Bug? Channels available in 1.2.6 are missing in 1.3 beta
Without access to sufficient devices to test, we can't figure a way to have 2-channel devices only be offered two recording channels, while not restricting other devices. So we've reverted that change, and the latest Windows development build (and 1.3.7 on all platforms when released) should now support multi-channel recording on those devices where it was working before.Gale Andrews wrote:We were trying to prevent the majority of users who only have two-channel recording devices setting recording to three or more channels and getting the inevitable error. This is with the proviso of course that you may have to set Audacity to record the device's maximum number of channels to get the ones you actually want.
