Audio Suddenly Stopped Playing

Post by travis cardwell » Thu Dec 04, 2008 10:02 pm

The other day I was trying to edit an interview that I did 2 weeks earlier. Suddenly, I was unable to hear any part of the interview. I thought that it was due to that specific file, so I tried other saved files and still had no audio. I check to make sure my computer was not on mute...but I can play other things on the computer just fine. For some reason audacity will not play audio. However, I can still record...

Can you help?

Thanks,

Travis

<<<I tried other saved files>>>

Audacity does not Save sound files. It saves Audacity Projects. A project is a collection of files managed by its AUP file. Launch Audacity first and then File > Open the AUP file rather than double clicking on the AUP file. It works better, I have no idea why.

The problem with Projects is that they're always standing on the original sound files, clips, segments, and captures you introduced. A lot of people think that after they Save their Project, they can go in and delete all those pieces because they're no longer needed. Those people are wrong. The first time you get a real, stand-alone sound file is one of the Exports.
