audio track display setting is messed up

Hi,
I've been using Audacity for years now and it's only recently that i have messed something up that i can't seem to fix.

When i start the program and press the record button the audio track is the normal size that it has been for years. But recently every time i hit the stop button after recording the audio track balloons out (expands in height) to almost fill the entire screen. A few months ago i, for the first time, started poking around with some preferences. I should have never done that.

What gives? How do i get that behavior to stop? I have tried uninstalling (removing all traces of the program) and that does not seem to be of any help.

It's a highly annoying (Microsoft like - meaning tedious annoyances that don't go away) behavior that i don't understand. I always have to stop what i am doing and resize the track. It's getting old very quickly.

Thanks for any help or insight you can provide.

You may not have caught the Preference File. Search your machine for audacity.cfg. Audacity 1.2 tried to save preferences in the Dreaded Windows Registry, but 1.3 learned its lesson and used a separate file. Trashing that file should make Audacity return to First Birthday on the next launch.

See the "Interface" tab in "Preferences".
Untick the box for "Automatically fit tracks vertically zoomed".
