mp3 files arent exporting as vbr

I dont know if its already been mentioned about vbr mp3's problems, if it has my apologies.

Anyhoo, Im using the 1.3.6 beta as the version before didnt have a setting for VBR for mp3's.

Well, only now it has a setting for VBR but its not outputting it as one. The finished encoded file is a CBR. At least thats what Foobar and Tag n Rename is telling me. Whats odd, is when I play the file in foobar, I can see the bitrate vary like it would playing a vbr file.

Also, it would sometimes say it was encoded by Blade when it was definately Lame that did it.

Whats going on? Is Audacity not passing the values properly to lame? (I have version 3.97 of the lame_enc.dll).

Using XP srv pk 2 with Creative Audigy.

IIRC from reading earlier posrtinfs theis was a kown bug with earlier 1.3 versions - so it looks as though this is still not fixed for 1.3..6

Workaround: Export as a .WAV file and then use an external converter program to convert to MP3 (there are plenty of free converters availabe on t'interweb).

Yeh, exporting to wav then using Razorlame was what I had to do.

Hopefully this'll get fixed as itll be 1 less step to save as mp3 as well as saving a bit of time exporting then reimporting into Razorlame. :-)

Thanks.

I believe that the developers are aware of this fault but haven't gotten around to fixing this yet, as they don't regard it as a high priority for Beta releases. But I would expect to see it fixed for the next stable release 1.4 - due next year sometime.

Glad you got a workaround to work for you.
