Compressor hangs in 1.3.6 on Vista

I recently upgraded to Audacity 1.3.6 on Vista Home Premium and last night recorded my first rehearsal. I'm trying to process the project; the Leveller worked fine, but the Compressor is hanging. The progress windows shows no progress, 11 minutes elapsed, and 154 minutes to go. The longer I wait, the more time it looks like it'll take. Looks like an infinite loop to me.

This process on these files usually takes about 20 minutes. I don't know what is wrong and am going to have to backlevel to 1.3.5 to make this work. Is there something I should have done??

When I first installed Audacity 1.3.6 (upgrading from 1.3.5) I had a similar problem but with Audacity crashing when using any kind of compressor effects. I deleted the audacity.cfg file to reset Audacities preferences and that seems to have fixed it.

By default that file will be a hidden file in "Documents and Settings<user name>Application DataAudacity"

Thanks, Steve, I'll give that a try for next time. I got it compressed using 1.3.4 (I never install over the old version!).

OK, this is amusing. I just tried to find that file to delete it - and Vista Home Premium will not let me edit the Documents and Settings file, or the Application Data file under my userid. Access denied. How did you get around that??

More on this issue: a little poking in the Vista Community brought me the information that "Documents and Settings" is a junction not a folder (I must read that up more) which is why I can't open it even though I am a <deleted> administrator. I assume the same applies to "Application Data" under my userid. I found audacity.cfg here:

C:Users<my userid>AppDataRoamingAudacityaudacity.cfg

However, deleting it did NOT help the looping compressor. I'm still having to go back to my 1.3.4 version to compress the file. I really would like some hope that the next beta release will fix this issue; I have to be able to compress my recordings.
