When I attempt to export to mp3, audacity becomes unresponsive, without any cpu activity.
I think I've found the culprit: the metadata editor window is hiding. When I turn off the option to open the editor on export, the problem goes away. Additionally, if I try to open the metadata editor window independently, I get the same hang. Maximizing/minimizing the Audacity editor window doesn't work (it's not responsive), nor can I alt-tab switch to it, nor can I see the metadata editor window if I try opening it with the main Audacity editor window shrunk down to a corner of the screen.
Anybody else experience this, or find a workaround? I'm using 1.3.5 on windows xp. I have a dual-display set up (although the metadata editor window isn't on the other screen, I've checked).

Re: metadata editor window hides, hanging the program
Hugh,
I have the same problem with the metadata editor causing Audacity to hang. As you diagnosed, my metadata editor window hides also, hanging Audacity, and making it completely non-responsive. This problem appeared suddenly this morning. As with your case, if you elect to turn off the edit metadata function upon export, the problem disappears. I am using this same workaround of turning off the edit metadata function that you found to enable me to export files from Audacity.
I have reinstalled Audacity 1.3.7 twice in order to try to remove this problem. First, I just reinstalled Audacity on top of the old install. Second, I tried removing the old install and doing a clean install. Neither solved the problem.
I suspect that this problem may somehow be related to an untoward interaction with either the new Microsoft Security update that downloaded last night, or potentially with the bluetooth drivers, since I installed an integrated bluetooth card in my laptop yesterday.
I am running Audacity 1.3.7 on a Dell Latitude Laptop D610 (2GHz Intel Pentium M Processor, with 2GB of memory), using Windows XP Pro SP3 as the operating system.
Thanks for any insight.

Re: metadata editor window hides, hanging the program
Reinstalling rarely makes any difference to any issues, since any issues that are to do with user preferences are stored in a file called "audacity.cfg" (a hidden file).reichenbach wrote:I have reinstalled Audacity 1.3.7 twice in order to try to remove this problem
Rather than uninstalling/re-installing, simply searching for and deleting the "audacity.cfg" file will reset Audacity back to factory defaults (make sure that you include hidden files in the search).

John, are you on a dual monitor as well, and did resetting Preferences help?reichenbach wrote:I have the same problem with the metadata editor causing Audacity to hang. Re: metadata editor window hides, hanging the program
This should be fixed now in our development code which you can try here, and the fix will be in the next 1.3.8 Beta.
