i have used audacity for a peroid of time
with "Stereo Mix" as input device
it has worked properly when recording any sound from the computer
i have bought a computer last week which is on Vista
when i use audacity on my new computer
i just keep every setting as same as when i was using it on the old one
but it doesn't record anything from the computer at all
i have enabled "Stereo Mix" as an input device of my computer
i have read some of the related articles in this forum
but i just can't find out any solution
hope someone could help me out

i don't know whether it's related to the hardware or not
just leave some information for reference

sound card: realtek HD audio
driver version: 6.0.1.5713
Image
even when i'm playing an audio file, the volume bar has no response

p.s.
i'm not a native speaker, i'm sorry that if there's any grammatical mistake

Apologies - I'm not a Vista user, so I'm just guessing.
Try selecting the "Stereo Mix" in your picture and see if you can get it to show "Properties" - you may need to adjust the recording level.

Check out the recent postings on Error Opening Sound Device thread. Hopefully that will help.

I don't think that rolling back to pre-SP1 will help me because my computer is installed with SP1 by the PC manufacturer
I 'm just worrying that if I tried to rolling back to pre-SP1, my computer will not work properly

I meant to look at the post following the one that worked when they rolled back SP1. When I checked my properties for my recording device, my upgrade to SP1 had changed the properties to 1 channel 44100 mhz. I had been recording previously and Audacity was set on 2 channel 44100. When I changed my properties on the recording device, I was able to record again.
