Help please ! I've just installed 1.2.6 for copying my old vinyl LPs to digital. I am running XP and sound card is NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio. I've connected the hifi amps TAPE/OUT phono sockets to the 3.5mm jack socket LINE IN (blue socket) on the back of my desktop PC. In Windows I've been to ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ENTERTAINMENT>VOLUME CONTROL>OPTIONS>RECORDING CONTROL and can see that "LINE IN" is selected and its volume control is fully on.

In Audacity I selected my sound card in EDIT>PREFERENCES>AUDIO IO for both Playback and Recording and selected "2(Stereo)" for Channels. I selected "LINE IN" from the drop list but when I put an LP on the turntable and click on "MONITOR LEVEL" nothing happens, no VU meter red lights, no sound out of my PC's speakers and ultimately no recording.

I've also tried using windows SOUND RECORDER instead but this also shows no sign of life. Can anyone help me please ? I assume my sound card is okay. Is this a "configuration" thing ?

It seems that you are looking in the right places as far as configuration is concerned, and good that you tried Sound Recorder. This tells us that you are not looking at an Audacity problem, but a sound system problem.

If you open up your sound cards control panel/Mixer, if you enable the the "Line" setting in Playback, you should be able to hear what is coming in through the Line In socket playing through your computer speakers/headphones. If this is not the case, I would look at the interconnect cables and check that they are OK.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've been in and out of the volume control screen so many times now but I've just tried again. Lo and behold under Master Volume>Advanced there was a tick box saying "rear speakers connected to line in". I unticked it and now I can hear my line in !!! Thank you for your help.
