Re: Can't import flac
Oops, sorry - Super8, whoa - had a flashback to the Kennedy years there. Yes, the program you showed the link to is the program I tried. I'm not sure what I should expect to see in the detailed report, but all the file parameters that were visible were the same for any .flac file I analyzed. If you have a suggestion as to what I should look for or see, please let me know.
Thanks

I'm not on my Windows machine at the moment, so can't give detailed description of SUPER.
Could you upload a couple of examples onto the internet somewhere and post links. Choose 2 files that appear identical, but where one works in Audacity and one doesn't - I'll have a look and see if I can spot any difference between them.

Re: Can't import flac
If you send me an email address that I can send a link to, I can upload it to YouSendIt, an FTP service I use for larger files. I can send you a FLAC that works in Audacity and one that doesn't work. They will be in a zip file called FLACFILES.

Yes, do that. You can either post the link here on the forum, or send it to me as a "Private Message" (click the "PM" under my name).industrialarts wrote:I can upload it to YouSendIt, an FTP service I use for larger files. Re: Can't import flac
It appears my last response to you didn't post.
You can download the file FLACFILE.zip at http://www.onlinefilefolder.com user name "industrialarts" password "general". It contains a file that imports OK and one that doesn't.
Thanks again for your time and interest in my problem. I would really like to use Audacity as my editing program without having to convert my files first.

Re: Can't import flac
Bump.
I have the same problem with 1.3.7.
Whenever I try to import a FLAC it says it couldn't find ffmpeg, and I have to idea how to get it. As fas as I can see on their site I have to compile it myself.
After telling we that, Audacity crashes.
Oh, and the welcome screen shows up every time even though I have ticked it off.

Re: Can't import flac
You can import FLAC with the Audacity built-in FLAC importer, without installing the optional FFmpeg library. Click File > Import > Audio and choose "All supported files" in the "Files of type" dropdown. This will then only use FFmpeg to import files if FFmpeg is the only importer that can do so. Examples of formats you would have to import via FFmpeg are WMA, AAC, AC3 and audio from video files. You don't need to compile FFmpeg. Click Edit > Preferences: Import / Export and click the Download button for FFmpeg. That will bring you to these instructions.Mike Hunt wrote: I have the same problem with 1.3.7.

Having told you that FFmpeg was not found, Audacity would try to use the inbuilt importer to import the FLAC file. If this file still crashes Audacity when you try to import it with the filter set to "All supported files", please upload the file to Yousendit or similar service and post the web address where we can download it (as long as it is not more than a few minutes long).
Then please reset your Preferences.Mike Hunt wrote:Oh, and the welcome screen shows up every time even though I have ticked it off.

Re: Can't import flac
Installing FFmpeg got rid of the warning, now Audacity simply crashes when I try to import it. File is here: http://frostbytez.com/files/Upload/down ... 20nai.flac
And I now see that the reason I kept getting the welcome screen was that the settings wasn't saved because it crashed.
