Hi,
First post and therefore simple.
I have Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode) and Windows (Home) XP
I lost the contents of my hard disk but fortunately all was backed up on my External Hard Disk including all the Audacity folders and files, my data and the desktop shortcut.
Plugging in my External Hard Disk and clicking on Audacity.exe - everything works, all is there
But how do I transfer all back to my hard disc drive?
Drag and drop? Copy and Paste? Reinstall and just transfer the data? In which case how?
Hope someone can help

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Using my back up
As a fuzzy general rule, as long as the AUP file and the associated _DATA folder are in the same folder or directory, the show should open. Try it with one show just to verify it works.
If you depend on multiple external sound files, then the problem is much more serious. You have to intentionally create a "self contained" show with all the external music copied inside Audacity.

Re: Using my back up
My inclination in such circumstances is to re-install the software, assuming you still have the original media - and copy the data back to your hard drive.
Personally I would use Windows Explorer to make the copies explicity and not use drag&drop - for my money drag&drop is susceptible to letting you drop stuff in the wrong place and then you can't finfd it, or stuff doesn't work - don't ask me how I know ...

Re: Using my back up
I concur with waxcylinder's advice. Re-install the software and copy and paste the data. Using copy and paste leaves the "source" copy intact, just in case anything else goes wrong! Remember that you must keep the Audacity project files (the .aup files) and their associated folders (the _data folders) together as "matched pairs" - i.e. xyz.aup and xyz_data must be placed into the same containing folder.

Actually I have to confess it was Mrs. Waxcylinder's advice - credit where credit is duePGA wrote:I concur with waxcylinder's advice.
