audacity won't record what i hear

I don't know what is wrong with audacity but it worked before when i had it on my computer before i system recovered. Now, when i put it on the record what you hear option, and i press record while listening to music on my computer, audacity isn't recording anything. I have tried for several minutes playing around with the audio i/o in preferences but nothing works.

I need a step by step process if possible to help me.
