recording doesn't function with microphone

when I press the record button with the microphone recording function, the cursor moves only when I speak . As soon as I stop singing or speaking, the recording stops. Can anyone provide a hint as to what is happening?

Audacity >< Preferences > Recording > [ ] Sound Activated Recording (deselect).
