I used audacity to record vinyl sound onto the PC

However, what i could hear from the play back is only one channel

I have checked all connection is in place. Also, i have connected the turntable directly to headphone and i could hear the sound perfect.

So can anyone shine a light on what I can do with it?

Is that the same wires/connections you are running into your computer? Most turntables don't have a "headphone" output... Or, are you saying that you had the headphones connected to the computer?

Does your computer have a line-input or is it a laptop with only a mic input? The mic input should not be used with a turntable. You need to use the line-input (analog) or USB (digital).

There are a few kinds of possible turntable setups/connections.

A traditional turntable doesn't have any electronics. It connects to an RIAA equalized preamp, which then goes to the line-input on you computer, (or line-in on your stereo system). Or, you can get a phono preamp/interface with USB out. Older receivers from the "vinyl days" had a phono preamp built-in.

Many newer turntables have a USB connector for connection to a computer.

Some newer turntables (including some USB turntables) have a line-output so they don't need a seperate preamp.

If you have an older stereo system with a turntable, it may have a line-out or "tape" output that you can use.
