Crashed with two opened....had recorded one side of an LP. Opened Aud a second time to record the other side.... while "normalizing" the first, crashed both. uninstalled/reinstalled, rebooted etc, no cannot find turntable input, but I finally stopped the white noise.... been through the FAQ's, instructions etc. It was coming through soundmapper

Crashed with two "what" opened? Audacity projects?

Make sure you are using Audacity 1.3.14:

You can check your current version at Help > About Audacity.

When you have 1.3.14, click Edit > Preferences, choose "Directories" on the left then make sure the box "Play and/or record using RAM" is not checked. Click OK to save any changes.

If you connect the turntable after launching Audacity, restart Audacity or click Transport > Rescan Audio Devices.

@ Redleg, further to your e-mail to [email protected] confirming you have 1.3.14, there is always an increased crash risk if you are applying effects in one project while recording in another, especially if the RAM option is enabled. More generally, the increased processing load could lead to drop-outs in your recording. So this depends on how fast your machine is, how much RAM (memory) it has, how many other programs and processes are running, and on the operating system.

My experience using the same machine on Windows XP and Windows 7 x64 is that recording while editing in another project works fine on XP. On Windows 7 x64 there can be dropouts and glitch noises in the recording if I edit another project at the same time. This is probably simply because Windows 7 has higher system requirements than XP, and my machine is well above system requirements for XP but only a little above for Windows 7 64-bit.
