music analysis outputs

Post by avigail » Wed Feb 29, 2012 9:26 am

I use audacity as a mean to analyze sound. I would like to know what is the meaning of the numbers on the left when I define the waveform?
also when i get a txt. file of the spectrum analysis there is no indication about the time units.
What have i to do un order to get this info?
thanks
avigail

p.s. If you know a better tool to analyze acoustic parameters i will be happy to know

You don't - it's amplitude against frequency (two dimensional).

You can see spectrograms against time:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/index. ... enu#spgram

using the Track Drop-Down Menu:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/index. ... -Down_Menu

but there is no text print out.

If you want a text print out of sample values over time, try Sample Printer:

Try http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/ (I do not use it, but it is free).
