Recording problem
When recording from Ion USB turntable, I get no waveforms, just a solid bright red panel. What am I doing wrong?

Well the first thing you are doing wrong is to post in totally the wrong section of the forum.
You need to tell us wchch platform you're on Windows/Mac/Linux and which version of Audacity (we will move this thread to the appropriate place then).
BTW if you do happen to be on Audacity 1.2 you really need to be on the latest Audacity 1.3.14 or even the 2.0 Release Candidate.

Somewhat chastened I can report that I am using Audacity 1.3.12-beta and Windows 7.

red bars are the clipping indicators - so a full red block means that you have a heavily oversaturated signal.
Does your ION TT have a gain control (volume control). The ION iTTUSB that I used to have did have one but it was in an un-obvious and inconvenient place - underneath at the back. If it does try turning it down.
