How do I paste a bunch of files together?

Post by lamboguy » Sun Feb 26, 2012 11:53 pm

I see I can paste 2 together by following the directions below.

But what if I have, say, 30 files that need to be pasted together?

Is there some sort of shortcut to past all these, end to end? Something along the lines of "select all and combine" would be swell.

Thanks

Follow these steps to splice two files together:
1.Import both files into Audacity.
2.Select the second one by clicking on its label (the area around the mute/solo buttons).
3.Choose “Find Zero Crossings” from the Edit menu.
4.Choose “Cut” from the Edit menu.
5.Place the cursor by clicking in the first track, after the end of the audio.
6.Choose “Paste” from the Edit menu.

Rather than cutting and pasting you may find it quicker to just slide them with the "Time Shift" tool (double headed arrow button).
They don't need to be all in the same track, they can be like this:

Looks like that would work great. I'm assuming I could merge them all to one track at that point?

Also, question: is there a simple way to open say 20 files at once? I'd love to just highlight them all and somehow hit open. (Haven't even tried that yet, maybe it works?)

Thanks

You can either:
select them all (Ctrl + A) then use "Mix and Render" from the Tracks menu,
or:
Just Export (File menu) and they will be mixed together automatically to produce one file.

The advantage of the first method is that it allows you to see the entire thing as one track before you export.
The advantage of the second method is that when you play back the "finished" track, if you change your mind and want to change one of the tracks you still have them all as separate tracks in the Audacity Project.

Important: If you've not done so already, read this part of the manual - it can save you a lot of headaches in the long run: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects

Yes that should work.
