Off key and tremolo or vibrato effect in recordings
I made a bass and drum track in Band in a Box it sounds fine. Recorded it with Audacity, saved it as a wave to desktop. and it comes out fine except it is noticeably flat. (out of tune, off key). Reopened it in Audacity and used Effects, Change pitch to retune it to put it back into A440 pitch. After that it is in tune but has a fast tremolo or echo effect to it. How can I prevent Audacity from changing the pitch or cleanly correct it if it does? Thanks.
Re: Off key and tremolo or vibrato effect in recordings
Please look in the Audacity "Help menu > About Audacity" and tell us the exact version of Audacity you are using (for example 1.3.15) The final digits are important.
Which version of Windows are you using?
At what point did it go "out of tune"?
Rather than "record" it into Audacity you would be better to export it from Band in a Box as a WAV file. If you want to edit the file, just Import it into Audacity?
Are you using a high quality sound card designed for music production? If so, what is the make and model?

Re: Off key and tremolo or vibrato effect in recordings
Thanks for the quick response. I found a remedy in the mean time experimenting. I am using Audacity 1.3.13-beta (Unicode). MoBo on board sound (AC97).
Windows XP SP3. The problem showed up as off key when I exported it as a .wav file, and was compounded when I tried to retune it back to A440 pitch, thats when the vibrato sound showed up. It was not severe but not acceptable either. I will probably have to edit with Audacity on every backing track I make, the CD needs a few extra seconds to allow for pushing the play button and getting set to play along with the track. And I need to add some time at the end so that the next track doesn't start before i can get to the stop button and push it. So some extra time is needed before and after the track plays.
I downloaded the lame dll and put it to use and exported the file as an MP3 and...problem gone~!! Something to do with microsoft .wav file
For an added bonus now I don't have to use NCH Switch to convert .wav to MP3, it comes out of Audacity as MP3 ready to burn to the CD. my CD player likes MP3's but will not play .wav files..
I'm not quite sure how to do all the mentioned operations in Band in a box yet. I'll have to ask the Yahoo BiaB group about that.
I guess as long as I export as MP3 there will be no more problem (fingers crossed) Thanks for the help again Steve. If you need more info about this problem just ask. FP
