Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Help Manual

Post by Happ » Tue Feb 21, 2012 8:56 pm

I installed Windows ver 1.3.14-beta from the Audicity site and cannot get the local help manual to work. I see the files under HELP/MANUAL/various directories. Upon clicking Help/Manual, I was asked where "index.html" should be installed. Now the pop up states "It does not appear Help is installed on your computer. Please view or download it on-line." After downloading/installing I get same message.

I would think someone else has had this problem.

Thanks

If you use the "Recommended Download: Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7: Audacity 1.3.14 installer (.exe file, 18.4 MB)" then the manual should be installed automatically by simply installing with the default settings.

Thanks Steve but downloading and installing again does not fix problem. The problem in a bug in the program. The files "index.html" and "quick_help.html" need to be installed under the "manual" directory which in turn is under the "help" directory. When they are opened in Windows Explorer [manually] everthing works fine off the local hard drive. You view the html's in Internet Explorer.

But the Audicity program itself [HELP dropdown] throws you into the website help page. It tells you HELP is not installed on the local computer. The only way to force the local help is to hit "cancel" twice when asked where do you want to "move/copy" the html files. Then everything works fine. Not obvious to the casual user.

I exhausted every other solution. How do you report this program bug?

Thanks
