Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

DD 5.1 cutting

Post by anuswara » Tue Feb 21, 2012 12:30 am

HI, read that audacity or eac3to are able to cut ac3 6 ch files into more chunks.
but I dont know the code, i.e how to tell eac3to to do following tasks (wikipedia did not help me):

"save only the audio from 1.34:00 to 1.45:00 and from 3:09:56 to 4:12:34 and from 00:00:00 to 00:34:20"

it is possible?

thanks in advance.

I don't think that we can help you with eacto either.
I think the home of eacto is the doom9 forum, so that's probably the best place to ask. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125966

If you want to try doing the job with Audacity, you'll need to install Audacity 1.3.14 (http://audacityteam.org/download/ ) and FFmpeg (http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... tallffmpeg ).
Audacity may then be able to import the file and you'll be able to edit it like any other audio file.

To export from Audacity as a multichannel file you will need to "Use Custom Mix" in the Import/Export tab of Preferences (see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Adva ... ng_Options )

Hi steve,

thank you for your reply!

this Audacity seems a great tool. I would like to use it.

2 questions please:

I did so:
select from 0.0.0 to 0.3.37 (preview audio at the end of the selection, using B key while leaving the Shift key pressed). ok.
then, leaving this part selected, edit>remove audio>trim. then
export: *file name* adding *.ac3*-extension, drop menù: ac3 ffmpeg, options: 448Kbps > clic save.

question1)

=> doing so I become the WHOLE file (25 minutes instead of 3:35minutes music). also the part remains UNcutted.
why if I press Trim I become the whole lenght of the source file?

question2)

=> I have a big ac3 file (4 hours). I have to extract 10 or more parts of this 4-hours-file.
have I to trim each part at time, or is it a way to select *all* the desidered parts, adding silence:
e.g .

cut...select a part....add silence...select the second part...add silence...select the 3rd part....cut until the end > trim > extract this in a one and only ac3 file?

or have I to trim and extract part 1 > file1.ac3
part2 > file2.ac3
part3 > file3.ac3
.....
loading the whole source file each time?

thanks a lot.

I dont know why I am unable to get wht you wrote here
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... sting_File

here an example:
I need the audio from 0.0.0 (start) to 0.03.37 (the remaining audio can be deleted, ok. => but I would be happy if at the same time were able to extract --near 0.0.0 to 0.03.37- - other parts too, e.g. 0.12.44 to 0.17.01 and 0.20.08 until the end of the source file. this were wonderful, so I would have to not reload the whole big source file for cuttin it agin and then again: is this possibile ? )

here a screen: all the 6 channel are selected until the timecounter 00.03.37.

after this process:
edit>remove audio>trim (the FIRST option inthe manù? trim = taglia I guess: i.e. trim is not Delete, ok?)
file name....save.

=> I become the whole video, or the second (unuseful) part is exported and saved, not the first part that I selected ?!?
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... sting_File

?!?
I am wrong but where...?

please help me.
thanks.

See this tutorial: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Split ... ate_tracks
The tutorial is old and uses Audacity 1.2.6, but the same procedure can be done with Audacity 1.3.14

wow! this audacity seems to be a great tool!!

I have installed lame 3.99 and ffmpeg pack too!!

I am happy with Audacity. the trim process went fine! :))

=> is it possible to select more parts in a ac3 file?
I 'd be even more happy hehe :))

if I select a part (dark blue color) I am unable to select a second/third part...

also I will have to reload the big file (4 hours) to get the first part trimmed, then reload the file to get the second part trimmed...the 10th part....
a demanding task, but I will do it ;)

thanks a lot.
best,
