I can record but it's not what I hear

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I've been using audacity for 3+ years now. I used it on my old acer that had windwows 7 and was able to record anything that played through the soundcard no problem. So long story short my acer bit the dust and now I have a Hp G7-1310us with windows 7 and IDT audio rather than realtek(That was on the acer), and when I try to record anything that's playing through my soundcard it sounds far away and echo like. Ive checked to make sure my stereomix is set as the default device, and I even disabled the mic to make sure it wasnt trying to use that and the problem is still there, all the recording and playback devices are using 48000 Hz (Dvd quality) for their settings.

Also to note, even if I export the audio that's been recorded in audacity and try to play it in another program it still sounds exactly as bad.

Win7 has some interesting additional services you may need to turn off.

kozikowski thank you :) did I mention thank you? THANK YOU :D its all fixed now that I found that enhancement feature windows 7 has for audio through the speakers that I didn't even know about, so it was just a matter of turning it off and everything is perfect now.
