Unexpected gap after pasting in audio? [SOLVED]

Post by Okieman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 11:37 pm

Couldn't answer this after several editing tutorials. Trying to put together edited version of spoken word. First segment was OK, but I needed to pull in a short bit from later in the overall recording. Opened that original full Audacity project, copied additional segment, returned to first segment, did the keystroke to place the cursor at the end of the track and pasted. The result sounded like a rough transition, which I at first assumed was shift in volume etc. Zoomed in and saw a gap of lighter gray, as if new part was pasted outside the end of first part. Cannot seem to edit that out. Suggestions? Here's a screen capt link...

It's a "split line" demarcating the edge of a "clip". A clip is created if pasting at the end of a track. Click the black line to merge the two clips back together. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/index. ... lips#split .

If you are copying or cutting a selection for pasting, it is good to use Edit > Find Zero Crossings (shortcut Z) after making the selection to trim it so that the selection edges are at silence.

That was perfect. You also linked to a better manual than the places I'd looked at before!!
