squashed up track??

Post by meowool » Fri Feb 10, 2012 6:28 pm

I loaded a track onto Audacity, but it manages to play it in 0.80 (is it in seconds) even though the track when I recorded it was....over 2 minutes long. I have no idea what's gone wrong, as I've just downloaded it.

Thanks for looking at! XD

Did you record the song or download the song?

Install FFmpeg according to these instructions:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... Ins#ffdown

then hopefully Audacity will import the file. Make sure you use Audacity 1.3.14 (check at Help > About Audacity).

If you need 1.3.14 it's here:
http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows .

I've installed that version, and the FFthingy.

anyway I don't have a problem with importing it's when I have a track, and it then gets squashed into under a second when I import it.

If you already have the track (I presume you mean in Audacity) then I do not understand why you are importing it again. If the "track" is a recording that you have made or a file you have ripped or downloaded then some extra details would useful. What kind of file are you are importing? How did you create this file? Remember, we cannot see your screen over your shoulder, you need to gives us precise and comprehensive information if we are to help you resolve this quickly.

I recorded it on my phone, which outputs it as a 3ga file. I convert it into a mp3*, then import it into audacity, which is where I get the problem. In the attachment is what it sounds like.

*after I've converted it, it plays fine...

If you are using 1.3.14 with FFmpeg 0.6.2 Audacity should import the 3GA file if it contains AMR NB or AAC.

It would be best to upload the 3GA file somewhere we can download it from.

Here are some file transfer services you could try:

http://www.yousendit.com
http://www.sendspace.com
http://minus.com/
https://castle.so/

Let us know the web address when you have posted it somewhere. Thanks for your help.

In what application do you convert it to MP3?

I convert it by changing the file ending to mp3 by renaming the file. (I don't have the original 3ga now, But i'll post one up anyway)

http://min.us/mbosaeRZ2e#1o <- .3ga file here It's meant to be me singing part of 'Love will find a way' from the lion king 2. thanks for helping!

EDIT: i remember somewhere someone saying if I had imported it 'raw' I have just tried that, and It still only gives me a small amount of audio. (compared to how big the file was before.)

That doesn't change the audio content at all.

Thanks. That one imports into 1.3.14 Beta with FFmpeg 0.6.2 apparently OK as about a minute of audio. Did you try that one?

That's expected. Import Raw Audio is only for uncompressed audio.

If the file you uploaded still imports squashed up in 1.3.14 Beta with FFmpeg 0.6.2, please click Help > Show Log..., then Log > Save... and attach the log.
