I just downloaded the v 1.4 .exe file with a view to updating my 1.3 installation, but the messages referring to 1.3 thrown by the installer look funny.

Are these typos or is there a problem with the release file? And should I overwrite the existing installation directory?

Many thanks!

I wasn't aware that there was a v1.4. As far as I know, the available releases are v1.2 (old and not recommended) and v1.3.14 Beta, which is a very stable level of the code. From where did you download your copy?

Doh!

I have the flu -- that's my only excuse not reading the numbers properly. Sorry!

Apologies accepted and get well soon! When I installed v1.3.14 I let it do whatever it wanted to with the previous version (1.3.11 I think it was). That apart, I checked to see whether there was a newer LAME library and a newer FFMpeg library but the versions that I had from the v1.3.11 install were still current as far as I could see. Everything seems to work OK for me - but I do not use Audacity very often for recording; just a lot for sound editing and mixing.

Generally, yes you should, that way it is just "updating" your original installation.
Windows can have problems with file associations if you have multiple versions installed.
