Audacity worked perfectly on my old laptop with XP, but that laptop died.
Got a new laptop with windows 7, installed Audacity 1.3 beta, it records but
the sound is garbled/distorted. What is wrong and how do I correct it?
Thanks

Since you're on WIn7 now, you could have most of these problems...

I am running Windows 7, and I am using Audacity 2.0 to record from a turntable through a USB. I have the input/recording volume turned virtually all the way down, but my audio is still clipping. I can make the blue waveform shrink within the channel, but it is still hitting an invisible wall. I think my computer is seeing the turntable as a microphone, rather than a line-level device, but I can't find where to change the setting.

I had the same problem with the older version of Audacity.

OK. I am the dope who never reads the detailed instructions of others. Apparently high-level output is a common problem with USB turntables, and it looks like the only possible fix is a replacement cartridge.

Sorry for the clutter.

Check to see if there is an output level control on the turntable itself. On some models there is a knob hidden on the underside of the turntable.

Nope. No knob.

I guess I'll have to use the analogue RCA outs from the turntable and go in through my computer's line in.
