We have been using Audacity for over a year now, every Sunday and Wednesday. We record our services at our church - live, and then cut CDs for the members that want them. Great product. We record on a Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop with the beta version 1.3.4 and Vista Home Premium...
About a month ago, about an hour into the service, the laptop just shut off for no good reason. Dead as a doornail. This has happened 2 times now. Audacity recovers after power on, but we loose that which occurs while off. We have been using 1.3.4 for about 6 months and recovery is great. Any Ideas...
Thank you

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Experiencing a problem...
It could be anything including the laptop!!!! Have you considered a backup recording as in a good portable tape recorder or video camera???

As Des suggests, the first thing to do would be to give the computer a thorough test without using Audacity (including leaving it idle for a couple of hours). Before trouble shooting Audacity, you need to know if the problem is with Audacity, or with the laptop itself.
