Workflow 2

Hi, in the last post I said that making a selection was no problem. I found out that making a PRECISE selection is very cumbersome the way I do it.
I push the P key to stop the replay at the benning of the section I want to delete.
Then try to set the cursor as close as possible at that point. Then drag my selection until the point I think the unwanted area will stretch.
After that i replay the selected area and push P at the endpoint of the part I want to delete.
Place the cursor approximately at the place I stopped the replay.
I wonder if there is a smarter way to go around this guessing "precision" and hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advance,

Rob

You can use the magnifier tools and the Label tool.

Drag-select a portion of the show around where you want one edit. Control-E magnify until you can find the precise sound at the edit and press Control-B to place a label.

Zoom out full (Control-F). Now find the other edit point the same way. Keep zooming in until you get to the precise sound. Control-B.

Zoom out full. The labels are sticky and you can easily drag-select between them to get the whole piece. You can also zoom in until your segment is a significant portion of the screen and select that way.

Thanks, Koz.
I am going to try your system immediately.
Until now I have not used labels, because it was not clear to me what they were used for.

This page in the manual may help: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Label_Tracks

Note that there are two types of labels point labels and range labels - Koz' method is using point labels (and I, personally, prefer working with point labels).
