Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

No sound playing .mp3

Post by lpvmc » Mon Jan 16, 2012 1:21 pm

Hi,

Windows XP, uodated
Audacity 1.3.12 beta

I have inmported a vinyl recording (Akai USB player) into my computer: nice waveform, good sound when replaying it in Audacity (Settings for playing: Realtek AC97 Audio, recording: USB Audio CODEC).
Next I exported the file to my desktop in .mp3. Unfortunately no sound when playing the .mp3 file. :o

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help, Leo

Try unplugging the turntable and play it again. Sometimes Windows likes to record your turntable and then play the sound back to it, which is clearly not going to work.

Windows usually does that by default. When you plug in a USB audio device Windows assumes that you want to use it for both recording and playback.
Unplugging the USB device should re-enable the sound card, or a better option is to reset your sound card as the default playback device. See here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/USB_t ... ires_reset

Hi,

That did it: disconnected the turntable, exported the file to .mp3 and it worked okay.

Thanks a lot.
