MP3 File with Track markers
Hi Newbee here, I have several audio tapes that I have captured to my PC as MP3 files. I can play these files ok except I cannot figure out how I can place markers to enable my player to skip tracks(i.e. using the next function) I do not want to make a CD just a computer file with track markers. Any help would be appreciated please....thanks

Lets say WMP or Media Player classic.
By way of explanation I am trying to make an MP3 file, with multiple tracks, behave like it was a CD. i.e. be able to step forward, or back.

Re: MP3 File with Track markers
The MP3 format specification does not support track markers within the individual file, nor do most audio formats.Darryl Reid wrote:Lets say WMP or Media Player classic.

Easy answer is to export separate MP3 files and save them as a playlist in your player software, then you can skip from one MP3 to the next as if they were a CD track.
Otherwise, Winamp or Foobar2000 can (I think) do what you want if you specify a cue sheet containing "track divisions". The cue sheet is loaded when the MP3 plays. Also there was a plug-in for Winamp 2 and 5 that did something similar

but it is unlikely to work in recent Winamp versions.
If you just want to set a playback position that the player remembers next time you play the file, iTunes supports that (set it by right-click over the file > Get Info).

Re: MP3 File with Track markers
Thanks Gale, I was trying to avoid exporting individual tracks but I'll try your suggestions.
