My Windows 7 laptop did an automatic update this morning and now my audacity 1.3.13 will not record streaming audio. Is anyone else having the same issue. It was working fine yesterday and I have not changed anything on my system. Looking at the update, there were no updates done to anything audio, just security updates.

You should go into Windows Control Panels > Sound > Recording and make sure it's still set to Stereo-Mix, Mix-Out, or What-U-Hear. Those are the devices (different on different computers) that allow the Record and Playback side of the computer to run at once, thus letting you record YouTube video sound, iTunes samples, etc.

Since doing that makes your computer slightly less stable, I wouldn't be shocked to find that service de-selected or outright missing. See what's there.

Thanks Koz! It is still set to Stereo Mix as default dervice in the Control Panel. I remember dealing with this several months ago as far as setting it. I figure by starting this thread as soon as possible, some others may have the same issue.

Figuted it out. I went into the "Stereo Mix Properties" under the Recording Tab and "Playback through this device" dropdown had changed to "Default Playback Device". I changed it back to my Realtek speakers and there you go. So to sum it up for anyone else having this problem in Window 7, go to "Control Panel", "Sound" and choose the "Recording Tab". Click on "Stereo Mix", which mine is or "Mix-Out" or "What-U-Hear" as they are different. Then choose the "Listen" tab and in the "Playback through this device", choose your audio device instead of "Default playback device".
