Hi, I am new to this Forum. I am using Audacity for a couple of weeks and I think it is a wonderfull piece of software.
My question is:
I have an audio file in which I want to replace a section I do not like with a re-recording of the same section.
I wonder if anyone has a good tip how to do that.
Just removing a section is no problem but it would be great if I could select the bad section and then give the command "replace by Silence", but I think that is impossible.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Sure you can do that: just select the section you don't want and use Edit > Remove Audio > Silence Audio
(the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+L )

Wow, thanks!
That solves my problem.

Well solved of of 'em anyway :)

You can record the replacement section and then use the Time Shift tool (double headed arrow <-> ) to slide the replacement to be under the section you silenced (you can't directly punch it in over the silence on the original track.

The timing may mot be ccurate so you may need to shorten your silence (select some audio and presss Ctrl+K to delete it - or lengthen the silence (use Generate > Silence )

You may get clicks at the joins, one way of ameliorating that is to arrange the audio so that your new "patch" slightly overlaps with the beginning and end of thge silence and then using fade-outs and fade-ins to cross-fade (fades are availabel from the Effect menu).
