Intermittent hum during recording / play back.

I have been recording music via the internet and I keep getting short duration hums or buzzes in the recording when I play it back. This hum is not present on the original sound. When using versions 1.2.3 and 1.2.6 I get stutters and not hums. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Latimer

Probably best not to use Audacity 1.2.x as it's very old and is known to often have problems on modern computers.
Could you upload a short sample recording to the Internet and post a link so that we can hear the problem.

Make sure upgrading to Audacity 1.3 doesn't cure the problem.
The 1.2 versions of Audacity can have serious problems on newer computers.

Thank you for your reply. The hums or buzzes occur when I use 1v1.3 and the stutters when I use v1.2.3 and v1.2.6. Being a novice on the forum, how can I upload a short recording and does this have to be in Audacity file or can it be a wav file?

I think I have worked out how to upload a file, so hopefully here it is as a wav file.

Yes there is, thank you.
The "buzz" sounds to me like a very fast "stutter", where a very short section of the audio is repeating, fast enough to sound like a buzz.
For clarity, can you confirm the exact version of Audacity that you used to make this recording. (look in "Help > About Audacity" for the full 3 part version number "1.3.??" )
In both this example, and the stuttering in 1.2.x the problem appears to be that the flow of audio data from your sound card through to the hard drive is getting interrupted.
What specification is your computer?
Do you know what sort of sound card you are using?
What programs do you have running while you are making this recording?
There are some optimisation tips on this page that may fix the problem:

Steve
The Audacity version is 1.3.14-beta (unicode)
My PC operates on Windows XP and consists of a Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz and 512mb Ram
I generally try not to run any other programme whilst I am recording, there is of course my security software which AVG 2012.
The sound card is C-media Wave device.
I hope this helps.
I will try the optimisation tips to see if that helps.
Cheers.
