Hi
I"m completely new at this...
I just need to cut and save 10 secs of a mp3 that I downloaded from Amazon into a wav file. I can't figure this program out. Can anyone point me the right direction?
I'm so sorry about this.
Need 10 sec of song only

Select the section that you want, then "File menu > Export Selection".
Note that to export in MP3 format you need to also install Lame: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... g-Ins#lame
Note also that MP3 is a "lossy format", so there will be some loss of sound quality when the exported audio is encoded to MP3.
For simple editing of MP3s without reducing the sound quality you could use MP3Split or mp3DirectCut.

Is the real question you can't open the music in Audacity? If you bought the music, you may not be able to open it in Audacity because of copyright issues. Windows Media has a copy protection format as does iTunes.
