I've been using audacity to record commentary for vids when I open my saved project files and click play audacity crashes I'm not sure if the reason is that I move the data and aup files to make them easier to find or my com can't handle audacity.

You posted in the 1.3 section of the forum. Are you using Audacity 1.3? Which one? Which WIndows?

I'm using audacity 1.3 beta. I use Windows 7 Enterprise.

There are over twenty versions of Audacity 1.3 beta. There are ANSI and Unicode versions and the number go from 1.3.1 through to 1.3.14
The version that you should be using is 1.3.14 (Unicode).
You can check the version by looking in Help > About Audacity.

Moving projects can be problematic. It should not make Audacity crash, but it can easily make projects impossible to open.
If you start a new project and don't move it, do you still have the problem?

Sry for not being specific in my previous post I checked and I'm using 1.3.14-beta (Unicode). On that day I recorded the audio that crashes audacity when I click the play button I also recorded two other files and moved both of them just as I did the first one however the other two files did not have this problem.

I'm not sure what exactly happened, but since other projects seem to work OK, keep an eye on the situation and avoid moving projects. If you get further problems let us know and we'll see what we can do to help.

In my opinion we must try and respond more aggressively to crashes while Audacity's project re-opening remains under suspicion, however slight.

Sean, it is possible to restart Audacity, open the .aup that crashes then attach a couple of items for us?

• A copy of the .aup project file that you opened
• A copy of the log when you open this .aup (before you click "Play")

The log is at Help > Show Log... . then click Log > Save... .

To attach the log and .aup, please click "Upload attachment" underneath where you post replies.

Also, did you have Audacity open while you moved projects?

If a project becomes unstable, try exporting it as a WAV file. If there is more than one track, click above the Mute / Solo buttons in the first track, then File > Export Selection, and repeat for the remaining tracks. Then restart Audacity, import the WAV file(s) and try saving it as a new project.

If the project is now correct, delete the .aup file and _data folder for the faulty project.
