dynamic use of spitfish vst

Hi folks,
New user here. First off, this is great software. Impressed with both it and the user community.
Anyway, I'm trying to remove sibilance from a recording. I've installed the Spitfish vst and all appears well.
However, I'm not sure quite how to use it. The Spitfish manual states:
Is this possible with Audacity? Effects are greyed out while playing the recording, so that doesn't work.
Or would it only work for live input from a microphone (I can see how that might be the case).
Thanks for any suggestions. I hope I've explained the scenario properly.

But when I'm using it in Audacity it doesn't seem dynamic at all. I can fiddle with the settings, and apply it to the file, and it does appear to help. But I'm thinking that it should be able to "listen" to the recording while it is being played, so that I can adjust the sensitivity to the optimum level before I apply it.Every fish fillet is a dynamics tool, so it makes no sense to pass only a portion of the signal to it. Dynamic
effects devices like this are made to process the entire signal to be as effective as possible.
