sound slightly fades in and out?? otherwise perfect!

This is the first time I've used Audacity. I hooked up my phonograph to receiver, and receiver to laptop. I turned levels down on most everything so that I don't blow my soundcard as It's plugged into my mic jac. I recorded my vinyl using the program and it sounds better than the original record! yes!. The problem I have is so slight that you wouldn't really notice unless you were listening for it. I don't know if there is a name for what's happening or not. It sounds as if someone is fooling with the treble knob up and down. Here and there it will do this slightly bassy sound, and then a more clear sound. It seems the volume stays the same. I am not sure how else to describe it. I've played with every effect that I could, to try to change it. I am not sure if it's a problem that lies with the connection since most sites say not to use a mic jack as an input. I'd hate to give up as it would be perfect without this annoyance! Any ideas? Thanks for any help. Sandy

You may have any of these problems on your computer. Keep reading until you find something that fits. I'm guessing Conferencing.

Thank you! I am pretty sure this worked. So far the recordings on the computer seem clear and not having the fading problem( hard to tell coming through it's little speakers)! I'll know more once I download some more 45's to make a full cd to burn! So far so good with disabling the systems effects! Sandy
