Nyquist Effects Not Available (SOLVED)

I'm trying to use the VocalRemover effect, but most of the effects on the Effects menu are grayed out. The manual says that vocalremover and other nyquist plugins are shipped with the Beta version (I'm running 1.3.14). I don't see the vocalremover.ny in my pluggins folder (or the Nyquist folder for that matter), nor can I find a download for vocalremover.ny. Any suggestions?

Ensure that Playback is stopped (not play, pause or record). Effects are not available during playback, pause or record.
Most effects require that some audio is selected:

That was it. I had it on pause. I knew it had to be something simple I was missing; I didn't realize it would be that simple. Thanks.
