Program GUI won't launch
I just installed 1.3.14 beta on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. When launching the program, the GUI never shows up although the task manager shows the program is running. I was previously running v.1.2.6 just fine on the same machine, but it also won't run now. Previous threads discuss replacing audacity.cfg with a downloaded file, but that did not work. I would appreciate any help you could provide. Thanks.

Re: Program GUI won't launch
Do I take it there is no taskbar button for Audacity?
Did you go to the processes tab of Windows Task Manager, right-click over "audacity.exe" then choose "End Process Tree"? Replacing audacity.cfg may not work otherwise.
Have you recently installed any new plug-ins?
After making sure Audacity is not running as above, paste the attached (renamed to audacity.cfg) into Users<user name>AppDataRoamingAudacity . The .cfg disables VST and LADSPA plug-ins.

Re: Program GUI won't launch
Do you have more than one monitor or have you recently removed/shut off a monitor? Could the most recent run of 1.2.6 have been exited with one or more Project windows maximized or minimized to the task bar?
How do you start Audacity (double-click it's icon, double-click an Audacity Project's icon, run from terminal etc.)?
To expand on Gale's questions... After you wait a bit for a normal load (few seconds) and nothing appears, does your Taskbar have an Audacity entry? Something like: if so, right-click the entry and choose the first/top item (Audacity(R), the Free...). Does a GUI open?
In Task Manager, do you see an entry in the Processes tab (you may sort on columns -- sort by Image Name, Audacity should pop to near the top)? Switch to the Applications tab, (sort by Task, Audacity should pop to near the top); is there an Audacity entry? Are there more than one?

Re: Program GUI won't launch
I launch the program by either double-clicking on the desktop icon, or single clicking on the icon under the start menu. When I do so, there is no icon on the Taskbar. There is an entry in the Windows Task Manager/Processes tab but NOT the Applications tab. I made sure that the program was not running before pasting the audacity.cfg file you provided into the correct AppData directory (that is, I killed the audacity.exe entry in the Windows Task Manager/Processes tab). **This did not solve the problem**
No, I have not installed any new plugins recently.
No, I do not have, nor have I ever run, more than one monitor on this computer.

Re: Program GUI won't launch
Did you uninstall 1.2.6? What directory did you install 1.3.14 into?
You have to be sure no Audacity processes are running by killing the process tree as described.
Please try killing the Audacity process tree again, then double-click Audacity.exe from inside the folder you installed 1.3.14 into.

Re: Program GUI won't launch
I made sure to kill the Audacity process tree prior to launching from the actual Audacity.exe, and it did not work. Yes, I had uninstalled 1.2.6 before installing 1.3.14.
I think I just figured out the problem. I had installed a Logitech webcam software and driver after my last successful Audacity session (1.2.6). I uninstalled the Logitech software and Audacity (1.3.14) seems to work fine now. I would really like to be able to use my webcam, so here is the link to what I installed in case you have the time to install and test it to figure out what is causing the conflict.

On a related note about this conflicting software, I noticed before uninstalling the Logitech software that I was unable to kill a process called LWS.exe (Logitech web software??) in the Task Manager.

Well done! This may be a very valuable piece of info for the Developers.beichman wrote: I think I just figured out the problem.

Re: Program GUI won't launch
I can't reproduce it on Windows 7 x64. I don't have a Logitech web cam and the software does not recognise my (video only) web cam, but I skipped the detection of the webcam and installed the software, set the software to run on launch, rebooted, observed lws.exe running in Task Manager and launched and restarted Audacity several times.beichman wrote:I think I just figured out the problem. I could not close lws.exe in the taskbar but could kill it in Task Manager.beichman wrote: On a related note about this conflicting software, I noticed before uninstalling the Logitech software that I was unable to kill a process called LWS.exe (Logitech web software??) in the Task Manager.
Would you be able to install the software again and see if you can still reproduce Audacity not launching after you do that? Does the webcam work without this software, and does the cam appear in "Sound" in Windows Control Panel as an audio device for the computer?
