2 part question

I've downloaded 1.3, but when I try to install I get the following message
Unable to execute file C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (unicode)audacity.exe
Create Process failed; code 14001.
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (Nope ...)
Any ideas?
As for part 2, if and when I'm able to get 1.3 running, will I be able to use it to work on projects created with 1.2.6?
Thanks!

Are you on Windows XP?
Please follow the instructions here to download and install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package":
http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 745#p45745 .
Although that thread is old, the fix seems to solve the few current instances we've seen of this issue.
Be sure to get the "x86" package for 32-bit Windows or the "x64"package for 64-bit Windows.
To check if you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, right-click over My Computer or Computer and choose "Properties". If 64-bit is not mentioned, you have 32-bit.
Please let us know if this helps. Here is the current 1.3.14 installer if you need it again:
http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/au ... 1.3.14.exe .

You will be able to open projects created in 1.2.6 but you are advised to make a copy of the .aup file and _data folder before opening projects 1.2 projects in 1.3.14. If you save the project in 1.3.14, you will not be able to open it again in 1.2.6.

Yes, Windows XP. Sorry, I forgot to say that.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'll give that a try, and I'm sure I'll be back to harass you with more questions later. It seems to be a great program, but I'm afraid I'm a bit technically challenged, and these things nevr really go well for me at first...
