Seek time period preferences not working, & Long Period?

For me in Edit>Preferences>Playback, changing the Short Period setting from 1 second to another value does not seem to have any effect. I tried changing it to 100 seconds but it still only moves by the same small increment. And this increment seems to vary based on the zoom - if I am zoomed in very close, it will move what seems to be the same amount of pixels, and less than one second in time. I exited and restarted Audacity but that did not help.

I also don't know how to correctly do a Long Period seek - as I understand it from [url=[/url], you hold the shift key along with the arrow to do a long period shift.
Seek left (long period) during playback - SHIFT + LEFT arrow
Seek right (long period) during playback - SHIFT + RIGHT arrow
But, this just highlights the select, changing it by the Short Period increment. This happens whether I am playing the track or whether it is stopped, so I'm not sure what "during playblack" means. What am I doing incorrectly? How do I move forward the 15 seconds set for a Long Period shift?

The "Long Jump" is shown in Preferences as "Seek Time when playing" http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Playback_Preferences
During Playback Shift+left/right cursor will jump the playback position by the "Long Period" setting.

To quickly navigate while playback is stopped, just click on the track where you want the playback position to start.

Also, if you have a wheel mouse, Ctrl+wheel is a quick and easy way to zoom in/out.

Thanks. I understood my problem - the track area was not highlighted :) I had to click the region just below the seek numbers and above where the position would change, thus highlighting the track between yellow bars.
