Audacity not picking up sounds from my mic.

Post by NgocTran » Thu Dec 22, 2011 6:47 am

The Microphone is working properly however when I record on Audacity with it, it shows a straight line. Why does this happen? I have tried looking at other topics with this issue, yet have not solved it. When I go to Preferences in edit, there is no 'Audio I/O.' Is that even needed? Note that it is not a computer mic, it is a shure mic connected to an interface which is connected to a usb into the computer.

All my sound levels are up to the full max. I have used audacity with this mic several times and no problem has occured. ( It sounds perfect) However I did stopped using audacity and mic for under a month because I was very busy. I did not changed any settings in this time. When I opened Audacity up and tried to record a song with my shure mic, it just left a straight line. I played it and there was no sound. (Please excuse me for my poor english.)

Here are some pictures on my settings.

This past week I have been playing with the settings hoping that something good may come up. Nothing at all.

Please help and suggest me some settings I should have on. Or just ask any question that comes out of your mind that may help.

I give you my dearest thanks.

You must be looking at old documentation that relates to Audacity 1.2.x
The current manual for Audacity 1.3.x can be found on line here and if you installed Audacity 1.3 using the recommended installer you will also have the manual in the Audacity Help menu.

Which Shure mic?
Which interface?
Which USB?

The first thing to check is the physical connections and then check the settings on the interface.
If your microphone requires phantom power, ensure that phantom is enabled on the audio interface. If not required then ensure that it is off.
Do not connect via a USB hub. USB audio interfaces should be connected directly to a USB port on the computer.
