Pausing on silence (SOLVED)

Post by StarHopper » Wed Dec 21, 2011 1:11 pm

Hi - 1st time poster.
I've spent quite a bit of time looking....no joy....so if this is a worn-out question, please forgive the noob!
First, what a wonderful app -- its versatility is almost unbelievable, and wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to its developers.

The one problem -- other than the many things I haven't learned how to use yet :D -- I am having is, when recording with the Sound Card as my source, Audacity (1.3xxxx) momentarily Pauses the recording process in moments of silence, eg between bars of music being played. I like making 'quiet mood' music so encounter this problem quite a bit. Of course it makes playback rather 'stunted' and offbeatish.

Simply put - how can I get Audacity to record a constant stream until I stop or pause the recording?
Is there a setting I haven't discovered that'll enable this function?
Thanks SO much for any help on this one nagging problem!

It sounds like you have inadvertently enabled Sound Activated Recording.
Click on the Transport menu and disable (un-check) Sound Activated Recording.
