Thanks a lot. It turned out that
Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) is critical for Audacity to work.
There should be added a feature to Audacity that read a errormessage saying that this package must be installed in order for Audacity work.
How could I possible know this when error message tell me to reinstall Audacity?
Again, thanks

As far as I'm aware this is not an Audacity problem - the error and error message come from Windows, so unless Microsoft decide to make Windows open source (about as likely as Ali Khamenei becoming the next US President) there's nothing that Audacity can do about it. Audacity already ships with the correct dll's but for some reason Windows sometimes substitutes the wrong ones. This is not a common problem, but thanks to your feedback I'm now in a better position to help anyone else that has this problem.

David Rose has confirmed that he has two XP Pro SP3 machines, one of which would not launch 1.3.14. Installing the appropriate Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package lets the machine that had the Audacity launch problem launch 1.3.14 OK.
