Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Sudden Loss of Internal Playback

Post by mdv88 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:36 pm

Hi. I'm using version 1.3.14 on a Windows 7 platform.

I've been using Audacity for a while, recording myself successfully. Playing back via Audacity to edit it properly (taking out lengthy pauses, etc.).

But? Today, I spent about two hours recording music and have just sat down to do the editing. But there's no sound. Everything else works fine. It even exports to MP3s with sound! But I can't playback from within the program, which obviously presents a problem when it comes to editing.

For the life of me, I can't think of anything that has changed that would have affected it this way. It's not my speakers, Windows Media Player plays Audacity's MP3s just fine.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it didn't help.

Any ideas? I really need to get this stuff out. Thanks much.

What do you have set as the playback device in the Device Toolbar? What are the other options? Do you have 1.3.14 alpha or 1.3.14 beta? ANSI or Unicode?

Well, solved my own problem... something that I should have caught right off the bat. The output volume went to zero without my doing anything. Since I hadn't done anything, I didn't think to look. Since I didn't think to look... I couldn't figure out why I had no sound.

Thanks.
