I've decided on a computer! It's a laptop with the intel Atom processor... but an engineer friend says that audacity might need a processor with more mmmph to it.
Any thoughts? Anyone use audacity on a little acer laptop?

Re: audacity running with the Atom processor...
It will probably work, though I've not tried it, but don't expect blistering performance.
I run Audacity on an Intel Pentium II 500MHz with 512 MB RAM and can record and playback 4 tracks at 32 bit / 48 kHz, or 8 tracks at 16bit / 44.1 kHz.
Performance of Audacity on my machine is about the same with XP or Linux, though generally speaking performance is much snappier with Linux than XP when using other applications, and probably will be on the little Acer.
