I figured out how to convert my LP to mp3 but...(and there is always a but) one side plays just fine but the second side(identical setup) sound like it is in a cave. Anybody else had this problem and figured it out?

How did you connect your turntable to the computer? In detail. Part numbers.

It is a USB connection. The turntable is China made Unknown manufacture Model nbr SPT-106. It is connected to via USB to a Toshiba Satellite (64 bit), Win 7.The only difference in the two recording secessions is changing sides of the LP.
I have used Audacity to download music from the internet and edit with good luck. I used the same computer. The turntable came with poor directions and a cd with a copy of Audacity, nothing else.

Probably an old or obsolete version of Audacity. For Win 7 the correct Audacity version is 1.3.13 which you can download from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

I don't know if this will help your current problem, but if you have Audacity 1.2.6 then upgrading to 1.3.13 will avoid a number of other problems.

I am using Audacity 1.3.13 beta. One odd thing just happened. I went to another LP with the usual bad result. So I paused the recording on the control panel and started over without undoing the recording and it go better. So I did it again and it was fine. My settings are Windows, speaker-Real Tech, Microphone arrary, 2 Stereo.

How big is/are your hard drives and how much free disk space?
Have you defragmented the drive(s) recently?

I have 379 GB free out of 455 GB. Win 7 defrags itself, not like XP.

Could you give a bit more detail about that. Where are those setting? Are those "options" or are they "the selected options"? I'm not sure what you are referring to.

This is the device tool bar directly under the PLAY, RECORD,STOP buttons on my copy of Audacity 1.3.13

I thought that might be what you meant, but I now don't understand how you can be recording from the USB input when it appears to not be selected as the recording device.
