Can't listen to my download

Post by Sapphira » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:38 pm

So my daughter and I download the audacity yesterday. We like to do paranormal stuff and this program was recommended to use. She and her friend went out this past weekend and got some crazy voices using her cell phone. When they got back she downloaded it to the computer. We can hear all kinds of voices but some are a bit hard to hear. Then the other day she and I went back out and I used a recorder this time. So after downloading the audacity I went to "import" and had to use "Raw Data" to import her recording I haven't been able to import the recording from the recorder I used the other day. I can't seem to find it through the import on the audacity. After downloading her recording to the auacity program and select play, it runs through the recording as if nothing is there at all. Like it flys through it in like 3 seconds. How do we set the program so we can hear her recording? And how can we download a recorder to the audacity?

Few consumer recorders produce uncompressed, well-behaved, WAV files, and the newer ones don't produce common MP3 files, either. If your recorder produces AAC, M4A or other highly compressed filetypes, you'll need to install the FFMpeg software to Audacity.

The phrase that pays is your file that seems to play in seconds rather than minutes. Audacity will try to open and play files it doesn't understand, and when it does that, the show is usually very fast. Sometimes blisteringly fast. If you have to resort to importing Raw Data, the show is usually already trash.

That's how to deal with your existing work. Find out if your recorder will capture and produce high quality sound. If you don't do that, you'll never know if the work was the Ghost of Christmas Past, or some bubbly compression artifact or sound damage from the recorder.

Also remember that AUP is not a sound file. To get a sound file you have to Export one. And don't export MP3. The MP3 compression sound damage will add to the damage from the recorder.
