My first visit and my first question...
My IT technician suggested Audacity to do some editing I need to do. I have downloaded several public access MP3 files from an archive web site. They are recordings of radio programs. Mixed in among the DJ's banter, the commercials and the public service announcements are the sound tracks I want to burn to a CD. The the MP3 files range in size from about 46 mb to 85 mb but each of them runs over 100 minutes in length. Both Nero 9 and Win Media Player have declared them as too large for a CD. They would fit onto a DVD easily but I want to be able to play them in CD players in my vehicles; to do this I have to remove at least 25 minutes of content surrounding the music.
Is audacity capable of doing this? Can someone give me the short course in doing it, please?

Re: Can Audacity Edit This?
Music CDs don't go by data size, they go by time. 78 minutes.
Import your show to Audacity, tell it to place labels every 78 minutes, then Export each segment as a separate sound file. You should NOT export as MP3. That will create compression sound damage. Export as Microsoft WAV and the quality of the show will be preserved.
Analyze > Regular Interval Labels.
File > Export Selection > Microsoft WAV 16-bit.
Drag the files into Windows Media and it should let you burn a Music CD (Not a Data CD.)

You can certainly do this manually. Play the segments and place labels at musically appropriate points. Control-B. The points can't be further apart than 78 minutes.

Re: Can Audacity Edit This?
Thanks, that sounds relatively uncomplicated.
Now all that remains is to figure out how to place the labels!

Pause the show and Control-B. Or you can do it on the fly.

Ctrl+B places a label at the current cursor position (whether stopped or paying/recording)
Ctrl+M places a label at the current pay/record position
You can move the labels to adjust their position by dragging
See this page in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Label_Tracks
