recording original computer sound

Post by the_impster » Fri Dec 02, 2011 6:39 pm

Hello,

As you might see this is my very first post on this forum,I'm posting because I've encountered a problem with audacity. I want to record the sound coming through my earphones but so far I have only managed to record the sound my microphone receives. A couple of different websites instructed me to go to start-> controlpanel-> sound and tick show hidden devices or something like that, it should reveal something called soundmix I believe. In my case it doesn't,

my question is why doesn't it? or

How can I record this sound from my computer?

many thanks

impster

thanks for your reply, I believe i have to update my soundcard drivers. I've been searching for some time but im not really sure where to download them there seems to be no (free) website with driver downloads. I used everest to track down my sound card it is:
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

does anyone know where i can download these drivers?

If your computer is a branded computer, go to the computer manufacturers web site.
If your computer is an unbranded computer, have a look inside the case to see the manufacturer and model number of the motherboard (it should be printed onto the board), then go to the motherboard manufacturers web site.
