Program only records audio and not voice

I had been using the program for about a week recording voice over audio, and yesterday it just started re-recording the audio over itself and no voice. The microphone now picks up no sound as well. I was wondering if anyone else has had this trouble or knows how to fix it. Thanks.

Did this happen right after you tried to record internet audio or YouTube or one of those? The changes you make to your machine to record internet audio turn off the ability to do entertainment recording. Do you remember what you did?
I'm saying "you", but it could be anybody that has access to your computer.
The short version is you told the computer to record from Stereo-Mix or Mix-Out instead of Mic-In. You can go into the Control Panels > Audio and look for the changes.
If it's not obvious, these are two of the postings on how to intentionally record from the internet. You may be able to follow them backwards.

I'm trying to record my voice over audio. This worked the first few days I had the program simply by importing the audio, then plugging in my mic and hitting the record button. Now when I do that, the program just records the audio over itself as if the mic isn't even plugged in. It's very frustrating.

Look in Audacity Device Toolbar ( see
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar ) and select the mic or front/rear/pink mic as appropriate (assuming it's a mic you are plugging into the computer mic port). If there is no mic input listed in Device Toolbar, tell us:
* what version of Windows
* all the inputs that are listed at Input Device in Device Toolbar
* exactly how the mic connects to the computer.
